Location and History

Peters Township was first settled by Europeans in the 1760s, and the area was originally part of a larger township called Nottingham. In 1781, the township was officially established and named Peters Township in honor of William Peters, a Philadelphia land speculator who owned significant land holdings in the area.
The early residents of Peters Township were mostly farmers, and the area remained largely rural well into the 20th century. In the mid-20th century, however, the township began to experience significant growth and development, as suburbanization and the expansion of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area brought more people to the area.
Today, Peters Township is a thriving suburban community with a population of around 22,000 people. Despite its growth and development, the township has worked to preserve its history and maintain its rural character in certain areas.

Community Amenities

One of the standout features of Peters Township is its park system, which includes more than a dozen parks and recreational facilities. Peterswood Park is the largest park in the township, with amenities such as a community center, sports fields, playgrounds, and walking trails. Other popular parks in the area include Elm Grove Park, Venetia Community Park, and Fairview Park.
In addition to its parks, Peters Township has a number of amenities and attractions, including a variety of shops and restaurants, a golf course, and the Peters Township Public Library. The community also hosts a number of events throughout the year, such as the Peters Township Farmers Market, summer concerts in the park, and holiday parades.
